RJ City Hall backs down and will not charge a passport for the vaccine in taxis and shopping malls

Hours after being published the decree that expanded the requirement for the passport for the vaccine in the city of Rio, the City of Rio took back and removed the obligation for shopping malls, taxis and application cars. The information was confirmed by the Secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz.

The change will be republished in the Official Gazette of Rio de Janeiro next Friday (3). The measure continues to apply to bars, restaurants, cafeterias, beauty and beauty salons, hotels, inns and temporary rental places.

The City of Rio de Janeiro decided to increase the obligation of passports after confirming three cases of the Ômicron variant in the country and the investigation of six suspected cases, one of them in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The health authorities’ concern is with the traditional movement with New Year’s Eve parties, summer in the city and Carnival.

So far, the city hall and the state government maintain the New Year’s Eve party, but with a daily assessment of the Covid-19 scenario, with the possibility of cancellation in case of deterioration. The city’s hotel chain has 80% of rooms reserved for New Year’s Eve and expects to reach 100% capacity by the date.

Proof of vaccination is already required in Rio de Janeiro in gyms, clubs, stadiums, fairs, conventions, tourist attractions, museums and theaters since September. The new decree determines that, in the case of activities with ticket sales, a passport must be required when purchasing or registering.

In the case of hotels and rental properties, reservations must be made only after presentation of the document. According to the city hall, it will be up to the establishments to control the entrance.
