The Civil Police concluded this Friday (20) the investigation that investigated a complaint of racial slur involving a retired public defender in Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro.
Based on the testimonies of the victims and the analysis of images from security cameras, delegate Carlos César Santos concluded that there was racial slur on the part of the former servant, a crime that carries a penalty of one to three years of imprisonment and a fine.
The investigation was concluded without the testimony of the woman, who did not appear at the police station on three occasions when she was expected.
According to the incident report, on March 30, Eduardo Peçanha and colleague Jonathas Mendonça made a delivery to a luxury condominium and parked the truck in front of the former defender’s garage.
According to the victims’ report to the Civil Police, she asked that the vehicle be removed from the entrance to the residence, which could not be promptly answered.
According to the lawyer responsible for defending the couriers, Joab Gama de Souza, the wait lasted only a few minutes.
He explains that the driver made a delivery to a neighboring residence and the professional who stayed in the truck did not have a driver’s license to remove the vehicle from the place, which started the discussion.
THE CNN had access to a video recorded by the victims, in which it is possible to hear the retired defender calling the delivery man a “monkey”. According to lawyer Joab Gama de Souza, after the offenses, the woman still threw objects in the direction of the delivery men.
The former defender already has at least six police records. In 2001, for bodily injury and embarrassment, and in 2013, there were two for injury and one for bodily injury. The following year, two more for injury and, in 2017, there was another record of injury.
In a note, the Public Defender’s Office of Rio de Janeiro reported that it is “absolutely opposed to any form of discrimination”, and that it has coordinators active in these types of cases. The organ, finally, highlights that the woman in the video has been retired since November 2016.

Injury and prejudice cases in 2021
According to the Instituto de Segurança Pública do Rio de Janeiro, 1,365 cases of injury due to prejudice were recorded in the state in 2021, of which 1,036 were black victims, 56% of them women.
The survey also shows that 166 people suffered prejudice based on race, color, religion, ethnicity and national origin, as well as 33 cases of cult outrage.
Prejudice injury is the act of discriminating against an individual on grounds of race, color, ethnicity, religion or origin.
Prejudice based on race, color, religion, ethnicity and national origin, on the other hand, aims at the inferiorization of an entire ethnic-racial group and affects human dignity.
