RJ civil police officers are arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes to release 16 tons of seized marijuana

This Thursday (19), in Rio de Janeiro, the Federal Police arrested four civil police officers and a lawyer suspected of involvement in a scheme responsible for the trafficking of 16 tons of marijuana. The group is also investigated for the crime of corruption.

The agents also carried out search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to those investigated in the capital of Rio de Janeiro and in Saquarema (RJ).

The City Civil Police, specifically the Robbery and Cargo Theft Police Station, was also the target of the operation carried out in conjunction with the Public Ministry.
According to investigations, the four civil police officers accepted bribes to lose 16 tons of marijuana in one go.

The cargo was in the Civil Police City after being seized in an integrated action between the Federal Highway Police (PRF) intelligence service and the PF, on the border between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The offer of money in exchange for releasing the cargo and releasing the driver was made by the lawyer who was also arrested in today’s operation.

The agents agreed and escorted the truck themselves to the approaches to Manguinhos, a community linked to the main criminal faction in Rio de Janeiro, Comando Vermelho.

Then, the load of marijuana would have been unloaded by the criminals, according to monitoring by investigators.
