The Rio de Janeiro court granted habeas corpus and ordered the release of the three owners of the pitbulls that attacked writer Roseana Murray, in Saquarema, in the Lakes Region of the state, at the beginning of this month. Kayky da Conceição Dantas, Ana Beatriz da Conceição Dantas and Davidson Ribeiro dos Santos had been in preventive detention since April 7th.
Judge Gilmar Augusto Teixeira's decision, handed down last Wednesday (10), was based on the fact that the animals had already been seized and collected by the municipality's Animal Protection Department. According to the magistrate, there is no danger of keeping the owners loose, as the dogs are no longer under his responsibility.
However, the Court upheld the decision to temporarily lose guardianship of the animals. The three owners are also prohibited from acquiring other animals until the final judgment of the case.
According to the Rio de Janeiro State Health Department, Roseana Murray remains hospitalized. She even lost part of an arm as a result of the bites.
