Since the early hours of this Tuesday (27), the Military Police have been carrying out a mega-operation in communities in Rio de Janeiro commanded by the Red Command, such as Complexo do Alemão and Penha, in the north of the city. So far, one police officer has been injured and four suspects have died.
The objective of the action is to capture leaders of the criminal faction, which, according to the PM, promotes most armed conflicts and attempts at territorial expansion in the capital and in the interior of the state. There were reports of exchanges of gunfire.
In Complexo da Penha, a police officer from the Shock Police Battalion (BPChq) was hit in the arm and taken to the Military Police Central Hospital (HCPM), in Estácio. His state of health is stable.
Near Vila Cruzeiro, which is part of the Complex, police officers were shot at by criminals who were leaving the community in a vehicle. There was a confrontation and the police managed to seize a pistol and 31 marijuana tablets. The bandits fled on foot.
At the entrances to Complexo do Alemão, streets were closed. Once inside the communities, men from the Special Operations Command (COE) had to remove barricades to move forward with policing. Even sofas and tires had been placed in the path. In the Nova Brasília community, which is part of the group of favelas, criminals set fire to vehicles to try to prevent the arrival of the police. After putting out the flames, the cars were removed.
During the action, the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) found a hiding place used by criminals in a forested area. The place was destroyed by agents.
Action in other communities dominated by the faction
Although the focus of the operation was on Alemão and Penha, other communities that border the region also took part in actions, such as Flexal (Inhaúma), Engenho da Rainha, Juramentinho and IPASE (Vicente de Carvalho), Guaporé, Tinta and Quitungo ( Brás de Pina and Cordovil).
In the Flexal Community, four criminals were shot in a confrontation and two pistols were seized. Relief is still ongoing.
In the Quitungo Community, teams from the 16th BPM (Olaria) demobilized a drug sales point and seized a certain amount of drugs to be counted.
In addition to the COE, units from the 1st and 2nd Area Policing Commands (CPAs) and the Pacifying Police Coordination (CPP) also participate in the actions.
The PM also operates in Cidade de Deus, in the west zone of Rio, and had to deal with the burning barricades on access to the interior of the favela. The actions also take place in Morro do Trem, Juramento, Juramentinho, Ipase, Flexal, Guaporé, Tinta and Quitungo, all in the north zone.
Escape attempt and death of suspects
Early in the morning, police clashed with armed criminals who were leaving Complexo da Penha, heading to the Community of Trio de Ouro, in São João de Meriti, Baixada Fluminense. Four men were in a car and were hit. They were taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Jardim Íris, but did not resist. With them, two 7.62 caliber rifles, four chargers, two radio communicators and a ballistic vest cover were seized, in addition to the car, which was stolen. The incident was reported to the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station (DHBF).
