RJ Governor defends operation: “Arms seized already demonstrate the need”

The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, spoke this Monday (30) about the joint operation that left 23 dead in Vila Cruzeiro, North Zone of the capital, on Tuesday (24).

During a ceremony that marked the beginning of the use of cameras on uniforms in the Military Police, the pre-candidate for reelection defended that “only the weapons seized already demonstrate the need to carry out that operation, which aimed to arrest the leaders of the most criminal faction”. dangerous city of Rio de Janeiro”.

“It is necessary to know how to differentiate between honest residents and working residents from those who are heavily armed”, he said. “I can’t understand what residents are doing on a tram with machine guns and grenades at 4:30 in the morning.” Castro, however, reinforced regretting all the deaths.

The operation in Vila Cruzeiro was a joint action between the Military Police (PM), the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), the Federal Police (PF) and the Federal Highway Police (PRF).

The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MP-RJ) and the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) established a Criminal Investigation Procedure to investigate the deaths. Bope’s command must send explanations about the operation within ten days.

In addition, the Civil Police’s General Department of Homicide and Protection of Persons was requested to send information about the police investigations launched to the MP.

The Public Ministry also sent a letter to the Homicide Police Station (DH), recommending that all the weapons of the military police involved in the action be seized and sent for forensic examination, including a comparison of the projectiles that may be removed from the victims.

The requests were made under the Criminal Investigation Procedure (PIC) established by the MP to investigate the circumstances of the deaths.
