The Public Security Institute (ISP) released the data report for October for Rio de Janeiro, last Monday (25). It is possible to see an improvement in public safety.
According to the ISP, in the first ten months of 2024, the state of RJ recorded a 13% drop in violent fatalities, the lowest rate in 34 years. Additionally, security forces reached a milestone by seizing 642 rifles, a 22% increase over the same period the previous year.
Violent lethality, which includes intentional homicides, robberies, bodily injuries followed by death and deaths due to police intervention, showed a drop of 13% compared to the same period of the previous year. With 3,107 recorded victims, this is the lowest number since 1991.
In addition to the reduction in homicides and the increase in weapons seizures, other indicators also showed positive results.
There was a drop in cargo thefts, deaths due to police intervention and arrests in the act. The recovery of stolen and stolen vehicles has also increased significantly.
The main highlights that are present in the report are:
- Historic drop in violent lethality: There was a 13% reduction in the number of victims of violent crimes, reaching the lowest value since 1991;

- Increase in the fight against trafficking: There was a 7% increase in drug seizures.
According to the Public Security Institute, the data is the result of the combination of integrated actions by the Civil and Military police, combined with investments in technology and police intelligence, which has proven to be effective in combating crime.
Governor Cláudio Castro attributed the positive results to the integrated work of the Civil and Military police, in addition to constant investments in public security.
The Secretary of Public Security, Victor dos Santos, highlighted the importance of training police officers and the use of technologies to combat crime.
The data released by the Public Security Institute refers to Occurrence Records (ROs) drawn up at Civil Police stations in the State of Rio during the month of October.
