The State Government of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (SEAP-RJ), carried out the transfer of two criminals involved with the attack on a state police station For the Federal Penitentiary of Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul, this Thursday (27).

Wesley de Souza do Espírito Santo and Rodolfo Mornings Viana, also known as ‘Rato’ and leader of the community ‘Vai who wants’, were in custody at Laércio da Costa Pelegrino Penitentiary (Bangu 1), in the Gericino complex, in the west of Rio.

The two were arrested on February 26 this year, after leading a Attack to the 60th Police Station, located in Campos Elíseos, in Baixada Fluminense . The transfer was made after the court accepted the government’s request for criminals to be taken to federal maximum security prisons, to a measure to ensure greater security.

Governor Claudio Castro (PL) commented on the action and stressed the importance of a forceful response to crime in the state.

“This is a message for those who dare to face the state and think it will be so. It will not. We will continue to use maximum strength, with all the resources available, including transfer to federal prisons, in this daily struggle against crime,” he said.

The transfer operation involved a joint work of federal and state criminal police, who escorted the prisoners to Santos Dumont Airport, from where they went to Campo Grande.

According to the State Government of RJ, the measure aims to hinder the communication and performance of criminals, as well as ensuring greater security in the custody process.
