RJ: man punches pedestrian and will be charged with attempted murder; see video

The homeless man, arrested this Wednesday (26), after attacking a pedestrian in Copacabana, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, will be charged with attempted murder.

According to delegate Vitor Becker, from the 12th DP, Felipe da Silva Santos, aged 39, took the risk of killing the victim.

The action was caught on a security camera. See below.

“To the extent that punching a lady in the face with such violence, causing her to faint and hit her head against the floor, minimally assumes the risk of death,” he stated.

According to investigations, Felipe already had 10 police experience. Among them, robbing a passerby, theft from a commercial establishment, threats and sexual harassment.

“The specific gravity of these facts and the criminal history of the aggressor, with multiple notes involving crimes involving violence and serious threats, were some of the grounds for the representation to the judiciary for the conversion of this flagrant arrest into preventive detention”, said the delegate.

The case

Last Wednesday, a 57-year-old woman was walking on a sidewalk in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio, when the homeless man passed by her and punched her in the face.

Security camera footage shows the moment the woman falls to the ground shortly after being punched. She is then helped by a pedestrian, while a man runs after the attacker.

The Military Police reported that teams from the Tourist Areas Policing Battalion (BPTur) arrested the suspect on Rua Barata Ribeiro, moments after the incident.

The victim was taken to a UPA and was then transferred to a private hospital. CNN has already requested a note from the unit and is awaiting a response.
