An office that carried out a fake payday loan scam was closed by the Civil Police this Tuesday (2) in the center of Rio de Janeiro. Six fraudsters were arrested in the act for forming a gang.
After the location investigation, material used by the criminals was seized.
According to investigations, criminals contacted elderly people and people who already had loans regularly taken out and offered to renew the debt, with the promise of reducing installments and interest rates. They also guaranteed a kind of cash change when purchasing the deal.
After accepting what would be a new loan, the victim received an amount credited to the account and, under the argument of supposed repayment, transferred the money to the accounts of the illegal company, LCR Consultoria, without realizing that he had taken out a new loan. with more installments and a larger outstanding balance. Furthermore, balances eventually received were often withdrawn from the elderly's accounts.
The action, by the Gávea police station (15th DP) took place following complaints. According to investigations, the place was set up approximately a month ago, and the criminals changed the location frequently to avoid possible inspections.
