RJ: Police dismantle cable theft scheme involving the CV

Seven people were arrested by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, with the support of the Civil Police of Paraná, this Thursday (24). Prisoners are suspected of involvement in a sophisticated and structured scheme of theft, receiving and marketing clandestine telephony and electricity cables.

According to the Secretary of Civil Police, Delegate Filipe Curi, the investigations showed the direct participation of Red Command traffickers in the scheme involving large entrepreneurs in the recycling business, old irons and even metallurgical.

“This is unheard of. We were aware of the involvement of the Red Command, but one thing is to have knowledge and another is to have it proved in a very careful and complex investigation,” said the secretary.

According to police, the group stole the cables always at dawn. Criminals used fraudulent and uniform service orders of companies to give acts of acts.

After theft, they had the help of motorcycle armed scouts, all linked to the Red Command, to bring the material to deposits installed in communities dominated by the faction in the city of Rio and Baixada Fluminense.

In deposits, the cables were fractionated, beared and burned, to eliminate any trace of origin. The extracted copper was sold to the old irons and metallurgy companies, especially from São Paulo. The profit with the business was divided with traffickers in exchange for protection.

“In one of the operations, drug trafficking members even had 50% of the profits. The traffickers went their heads,” said Delegate Carlos Oliveira, sub-secretary of Planning of the Rio Civil Police.

Gang leaders arrested

In the operation of Thursday (24), a woman identified as Sinara Alves de Oliveira, pointed out as leader of the scheme, was arrested in Rio. She was placed at the highest gang after the arrest of her husband last year in Paraná.

Ricardo Lyra Ribeiro, who is a journalist, was arrested for connection with drug trafficking. He was pointed out as the link with trafficking at Morro do Fallet, in the central region of Rio. In addition to the seven prisoners, 46 search and seizure warrants were fulfilled at addresses linked to targets in Rio and Sao Paulo.

The police seized only in a deposit in Campo Grande, in the west of the state capital, 200 tons of dubious copper, valued at $ 10 million.

Lucrative business

The underground Planning of the Rio Civil Police, delegate Carlos Oliveira, stressed that the copper is a material designed by the high value. According to the delegate, the price of the ton of copper is currently about $ 9,000.

“This problem of copper theft has already transcended the issue of a mere person who stolen, mostly a social vulnerable, especially drug addicts. Today we have criminal organizations specializing in theft and receiving the material.”

“It’s an international problem. It’s not just in Rio, it’s not just in Brazil that this problem exists. Today, Brazil is fifth, after China, the United States India and South Africa in occurrences,” added the sub-secretary.

Rio police asked the population for help to report the cases.
