RJ police want to hear witnesses about German consul and husband relationship

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro wants to hear from people linked to the German consul in Rio de Janeiro, Uwe Herbert Hahn, and her husband, Walter Henri Maximillen Biot.

The goal is to know what the couple’s relationship was like.

The delegate responsible for the case, Camila Lourenço, is also waiting for the consul’s and the victim’s cell phones to be breached in order to analyze the contents of the devices, which were seized to help in the investigations.

Uwe Herbert Hahn is suspected of the death of her husband, the Belgian Walter Biot, 52 years old. The victim was found dead last Friday night (5th) in the apartment where the two lived in Ipanema, south of the city.

In a statement to the police, the consul said that the two had been together for 23 years and that they had lived in Brazil for four years.

Also according to Hahn, in May of this year the diplomat was informed that he should move to Haiti.

He said her husband was happy with the move. But, a month ago, he started drinking alcohol excessively and taking sleeping pills because he would be nervous and anguished with the organization of the change.

Last Friday (5), still according to the diplomat, the couple was on the couch when the victim suddenly had an outbreak.

In a video taken by the police in the apartment where he lived, the consul shows how it all happened.

According to him, Walter got up and ran, very fast, towards the balcony, and fell to the ground. “I can’t tell you the reason for this reaction. I can tell you that in the last couple of days he’s had a couple of panic attacks.

He was nervous. Sometimes he was acting different,” Hahn told the delegate.

The version, however, does not match what the victim’s autopsy report attests. According to the document, there were several injuries on the victim’s body resulting from a blunt action, one of them compatible with bruises and the other with the use of a cylindrical instrument (supposedly a wooden stick), as well as the local expertise, which detected stains of blood in the property, notably in the couple’s bedroom and bathroom, compatible with the dynamics of violent death”, points out the expert in the report.

The consul was arrested in the act but the Justice converted the arrest to preventive, during the custody hearing, on Sunday afternoon (7).

The diplomat’s defense asked for the release of the arrest, claiming that he has consular immunity. However, the Court understood that the benefit does not apply to the case, as it is an episode outside the consular environment and without any relation to his functions.

In addition, the prison was maintained to avoid jeopardizing the collection of evidence and to ensure that there is no escape.

In a statement, the German Consulate in Rio de Janeiro stated that the “German Embassy in Brasília and the Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro are in close contact with the Brazilian authorities in this case”.

“We ask for your understanding that, for reasons of personal privacy, we are currently unable to provide further information about the person or details of the case,” the note adds.

THE CNN tries to contact the diplomat’s defense, but, until the closing of this article, there was no response.
