RJ receives more than 230 thousand doses of dengue vaccine; state declared epidemic

The state of Rio de Janeiro receives the first batch of dengue vaccine from the Ministry of Health this Thursday (22). They will be distributed to the capital and cities in Baixada Fluminense.

According to the State Department of Health, the first doses should be administered to children and adolescents aged 10 and 14. Immunization dates have not yet been defined.

Due to the spread of dengue, the governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro, declared an epidemic throughout the state. He also announced some measures to combat the disease.

According to the governor, an Emergency Operations Center is being created, in addition to the increase in the number of doctors and nurses in Emergency Care Units (UPAs) and the expansion of hydration rooms for patients with dengue symptoms.

The latest data from the Ministry of Health shows that the state of Rio has already surpassed 50,000 probable cases of the disease. And of the 92 municipalities, more than 60 registered an increase in the number of dengue cases.

The State Department of Health reported that in recent days dengue records were 20 times higher than what was expected.

A meeting was scheduled for this week between the governor and all the mayors of the cities of Rio. The objective is to discuss actions to combat dengue in all cities.

In the state, four people have already died from the disease. Two in the capital, one in the city of Mangaratiba, which is on the Costa Verde, and the other in the city of Itatiaia, which is in the Sul-Fluminense region.

With the epidemic decree, the state government should be able to serve the population and municipalities in a faster and less bureaucratic way, mainly in the purchase of inputs for clinics and hospitals, in the treatment of dengue.
