A woman, identified as Solange Mendes da Silva, 49, died after being shot in Complexo do Alemão, in the north of Rio de Janeiro this Friday (22).
She was taken to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital but, according to the unit, she arrived dead. Her body will be forwarded to the IML.
In all, the operation left 18 people dead, 17 of whom died on Thursday (21) and one died on Friday. Initially, the Civil Police had announced that the action left 19 dead. The information was corrected by the corporation, which stated that a suspect shot had been presumed dead but survived.
The survey is from the Study Group on New Illegalisms (Geni) at the Fluminense Federal University and takes into account actions that took place from 1989 onwards.
The atmosphere remains tense in the set of communities. According to information from the Military Police, armed criminals attacked one of the bases of the Nova Brasília Pacifying Police Unit (UPP), which is part of the complex.
Despite the shooting, there was no confrontation with the police, who intensified patrols at the site, according to the corporation.
Also according to the PM, after the criminal attack, a woman was found injured and was rescued by the military police to an Emergency Care Unit in the region.
It all happens one day after a joint operation between the Military and Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro. About 400 men participated in the action, with the aim of preventing theft of vehicles, cargo and banks.
The atmosphere was tense in the region and several roads were blocked. Schools stopped working.
Ten armored vehicles and four helicopters were used in the action on Thursday (21). One of the aircraft was shot at by criminals.
The video with the act circulated on social media. During the action, the police seized a 50 point machine gun, which would have been used to try to shoot down the helicopter; four rifles, two pistols and more than 50 explosives. Five suspects were arrested.
