The 35-year-old gardener Carlos André Vasconcelos da Silva died on Friday morning after being a victim of a stray bullet while going to work. The case occurred near the BRT Penha Station of Rio de Janeiro, in the north of the state capital.
Carlos was shot on the back during a police megaoperation to combat organized crime in the complexes of Penha and German.
“He lives here, but he is raising from Rocinha. It left every day, worked from Monday to Friday. We live in a community, and are afraid right? But we never think it will happen one day with us, ”said the victim’s wife.
“He [Carlos] I was going out to work. He was a gardener, had a 5 -year -old son and an 11 -year -old daughter who lives in Paraíba. My husband was a very good man, a good father, a good husband, ”said the wife.
She said she received the news that her husband had been shot and went with an uncle to where Carlos was.
“[Ele era] A good son -in -law, a good son, a good brother -in -law, a good father. Any mother wanted him as a son -in -law, any mother wanted him as a son, ”said his mother -in -law.
About 500 police officers participated in the mega operation in the communities. Residents reported an intense exchange of fire at dawn and early Friday morning. There are also reports of burnt barrels and fires in the communities.
