Roadblock prevents donor heart from being sent and can no longer be used

Roadblocks prevented the dispatch of a heart from Goiás to São Paulo, making a transplant unfeasible.

Demonstrations against the results of the presidential elections began on Sunday night (31). Interdictions in several states lasted until Thursday night (3), when all federal highways were released, according to the Federal Highway Police (PRF).

According to the São Paulo State Department of Health, heart transplantation requires quick transport of the organ, which should arrive within four hours.

“The responsible technical teams considered that, due to blockages, it would not be possible to perform the operation so that the organ could safely reach the patient”, the secretary said in a note.

The Goiás State Health Department stated that the transplant was not possible due to logistical issues.

“Initially, there was the possibility of capturing the heart for a recipient in São Paulo, but for logistical reasons it was not possible. However, the compatibility of receivers in Brasília was evaluated, but there was no compatible receiver,” he said in a statement.

Through the Transplantation Management, the secretariat informed that five people benefited from the donation of organs from the patient who was hospitalized at the Hospital de Urgências de Goiânia (Hugo), from the capture of liver, kidneys and corneas for recipients in Goiás and of the Federal District.
