The Brazilian Food Industry Association (Abia), in a statement released this Wednesday (2), expressed “grave concern” in the face of roadblocks, organized by supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
According to the association, if the blockades persist, they will “severely affect the access of industries to raw materials and essential inputs”, citing powdered milk and infant formula.
“The roadblocks severely compromise the access of industries to raw materials and essential inputs for production and prevent the distribution of all types of food, including powdered milk and infant formula. Abia’s monitoring counts more than 30 production lines stopped or at high risk of stoppage in the coming hours”, he said.
She also cites the risk of discarding 500,000 liters of milk and demands an “urgent” and “fast” action from governments.
“Starting tomorrow [quinta-feira, 3] there is a risk of discarding at least 500 thousand liters of milk per day by the main suppliers of just one associated industry – in addition to the loss of thousands of finished products. […] There is an urgent need for quick and effective action by governments”, he concluded.
