A jewelry store located in VillageMall, a luxury mall in the city of Rio de Janeiro , was the target of a robbery earlier this Saturday night (25). The action left a security guard dead and caused panic in customers and employees of the mall.
The Military Police reported that the area is isolated for investigation and that agents are looking for the bandits in the region. Preliminary information from the Civil Police (PCERJ) reports that the robbers took hostages to leave the mall, after having stolen some jewelry.
Visitors to the VillageMall reported on social media that they heard many gunshots, widespread panic and despair to be able to leave the place, which was emptied.
At the mall, three vehicles, two cars and a motorcycle were allegedly abandoned by the robbers.
In a note sent by the press office, the VillageMall administration said it deeply regretted what had happened and said that it “collaborates with the competent authorities to clarify the facts”.
