Roberta Di Mario: “The beauty of sound after silence”

«The last time in front of the public was in September 2020, then the stage failed. And now it’s back to the light. I think of the faces, of the breaths, it is the manifestation of a new beginning, of a rebirth ». The emotion for Roberta Di Mario, pianist and composer, the concerts are finally back. She sitting on the piano, her hands moving, around people. Let’s start once again on July 27 to the Torre di Federico di Enna, and then on August 3 in Milan, at the East Arena.

Graduated from the Parma Conservatory, winner of numerous national and international competitions, artistic director and curator of various music festivals, she resides on the floor with «A new beginning», that is, sound in motion, free and courageous, towards a new space, safe and renewed, for a confident rebirth.

“In recent months we have all been deprived of art, of music, that is, of true nourishment”, he says, “And we realized how much all this really has value”.

The live: «Music and the piano, its highest expression, must be what allow us to cross over from screens, from video calls, from fears. Get away from all this and land in a dimension where everything is more immediate. Trespassing on beauty, on wonder, trespassing on sound. The beauty of sound after silence, because originally we were sound and one day we will be sound again ».

«I like that music is at the service of a higher value», Continues Di Mario, who also takes care of the artistic direction of WE-Women’s Equality Festival, scheduled for next September. “The pandemic, we know, has discriminated even more against the female figure. We need attention, care. There battle for gender equality it must be carried out by women as by men, There is a fight, but the solution is the union of the two genres».

Women and music: «In my world, by tradition, the male figure has always been predominant, but I have never felt myself to be a victim of discrimination. Maybe I have this imposing figure, I’m very tall… and I don’t even give importance to words as director or director, it’s the content that counts. The data, however, speak for themselves: we women are few. We must all be committed to gender equality. Never let your guard down ».

Practice disarmament: «I’m going back to the stage feeling even closer the strength of the disarm, title of my latest album. I let myself go and I hope the spectators do too. Surrender is just that: giving oneself to the other and giving. It is then the experience of sound that is transformed into energy: new, shared, necessary energy ».
