Speak about “Behind the night” without tripping over some spoiler, it is a very difficult undertaking. The adrenaline-pumping thriller – produced by Fenix Entertainment and available on Sky Cinema starting from April 28 – is a succession of twists, all compressed from dusk to dawn: Marta (Stefania Rocca) is in charge of carrying a shipment of diamonds to Dubai, but an unexpected event drags her, comrade Bruno (Fortunato Cerlino), the sister (Roberta Giarrusso) and daughter (Elisa Visari) on a high voltage night.
«This film tells a staged in the staging», Fortunato Cerlino reveals to us,« a stage with several authors, where everyone points straight to its goal and necessarily enters into war with the other. My character even thinks he’s the protagonist of the story, to orchestrate his show, which is a bit like what happens to us in everyday life: we think we are the only architects of our destiny, and sometimes even that of others, only to come promptly denied from the facts “.
«The topics covered are current», Roberta Giarrusso urges him. «As far as I’m concerned, playing Giulia was therapeutic because I too, like her, have always hidden a pain inside tied to my family. I was a lot as a girl rebel, I have experienced the separation of my parents since I was born and I have always struggled with the smile, but suffering from within. Here, thanks to Giulia I managed to exorcise that pain because I gave free rein to what i have never done in life, so don’t necessarily laugh ».
His life, among other things, was turned upside down four years ago by the birth of Giulia: “That was mine beautiful twist: I always said I just wanted to focus on career instead I got married and I’m become a mother. On a professional level, since I’ve always played comely women, this film is my twist ». “I, mine, am still waiting for it,” replies Cerlino. “It’s not about work or private life, it’s about my experience as a human being in this world. I think it will come when I get a little closer to the meaning of all this ».
And to think that all twists of “Behind the Night” were born only with development of the script: «I started from a female character, Marta, and the thriller then burst into my hands, ”says director Falleri. Which starts the plot with a grave episode of sexism at work: «It’s a film against prejudices, that tells the strength of women in a world of men, with rules built by men. The protagonist rebels not out of vice, but because it is precluded freedom of expression: then he takes the helm ».
“Some have said that my character is unpleasant, but what happens to her is normal after all, ”smiles Stefania Rocca. “Marta is everything and the opposite of everything, strategist but not really. It is located in front of an unexpected event that he had not calculated, from there the impulse: that is perhaps yours more rock side that I feel mine “. All with a daughter at your side, Elena, who is hungry for life and can’t stand the wait: «It is precisely what makes it mature the real comparison with her mother », says Elisa Visari. «The initial confrontation is transformed in complicity».
