President Roberta Metsola spoke about the corruption scandal affecting the European Parliament upon her arrival at the Summit in Brussels.
“I will speak about the criminal charges involving the European Parliament, which is a blow to Democracy and a blow to everything we have worked on for many years. It takes years to build trustbut only one moment to knock it down” he said.
“My message will be that there will be no impunity, nothing will be swept under the carpet, it will not be business as usual. I will do everything I can with my colleagues to restore the position (of the European Parliament) as the house of democracy. As a co-legislator, as an institution that is transparent, that is clean and is not for sale to foreign actors that seem to undermine us,” Ms. Metsola said according to the correspondent of the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.
He also noted that there will continue to be pressure “for a decision on the cap on natural gas while noting that the Ukraine issue remains at the top of the agenda.
