Roberto Cazzaniga, on trial the two women who defrauded him by inventing a fake girlfriend

They are accused of sentimental fraud against the volleyball player Roberto Cazzaniga: Valeria Satta and Manuela Passero, for thirteen years, would have extorted over 500 thousand euros from the 44-year-old.

The trial against them will begin on July 9, at the court of Cagliari. The two women, one resident in Vimercate, province of Monza, and one in the province of Cagliari, allegedly made Roberto Cazzaniga, currently working for New Mater Volley of Castellana Grotte, believe that they were engaged to a Brazilian model, Maya Mancini, who in fact does not exist.

Valeria Satta, the “voice”, pretended to be Maya and, with the complicity of Manuela Passero, a friend of the volleyball player, established and cultivated a telephone relationship with him to make him believe he was living a real love story. To make the scam credible, he sent Cazzaniga photos of the model Alessandra Ambrosioface of Victoria’s Secret, passing them off as his. And she asked him all the time money telling him that it would be used to treat some very serious pathologies from which she would have been affected, to pay the medical expenses of visits and surgeries. The non-existent girlfriend continually spoke of “economic deprivation” due to the “blocking of family bank accounts” due to an inheritance situation following the death of her great-grandparents.

So, with around 1400 transactions, between postepay top-ups and bank transfers, Cazzaniga has transferred hundreds of thousands of euros from 2008 to 2021 to the two scammers. She had accepted that the relationship would remain long-distance because he had been made to believe that the elusive Maya had a “serious heart disease” and “immunosuppressive pathologies that prohibited contact with strangers”.

In April 2022, the Guardia di Finanza seized assets worth 74 thousand euros from the two suspects, obtained from the illicit activity. Last September, during the pre-trial hearing at the Court of Cagliari, Satta, as reported by The Republicit would have presented a request for probation and asked the judge to carry out socially useful work, to avoid conviction and obtain the extinction of the crime. But the judge rejected the request, also because the injured party was not compensated.
