Main attraction on the World Stage on the second day of Rock in Rio 2024 the band imagine Dragons delivered a show of almost two hours which excited the crowd from start to finish. Celebrating the group’s greatest hits, the vocalist Dan Reynolds also took advantage of the space to talk about mental health.
The show, which started promptly at midnight, featured songs such as “Thunder”, “Boner” , “Shots” , “Demons” and “Enemy” . Between one song and another, the band still made room for some guitar solos and a battle between drums.
Right at the beginning of the show, Dan sent the audience into a frenzy by ripping off his shirt — something that drew cheers from the crowd, which were sung in unison.
Showing great charisma, the singer even tried his hand at Portuguese during the performance, to declare his love for Rio de Janeiro. “I love the people of Rio,” he said. “Thank you.”
To introduce the music “Take me to the Beach” the artist made reference to Ipanema beach, calling it “one of the best places in the world”.
Shortly after, Dan Reynolds took the opportunity to talk about mental health with the thousands of people present. After confirming that the performance at Rock in Rio was already one of his favorites, he said:
“The reason the band started is that when I was 12, I started to suffer in my mind in a way that was hard to express. It wasn’t sadness. It was gray. I was numb,” he began.
“The things that used to bring me joy no longer brought me joy. This went on for many years and I kept it to myself. It hurt me and I lost years of my life that could have been saved if I had expressed it to someone.”
“I advise you, to anyone, if it’s hurting, please don’t keep it to yourself, share it, talk to a friend, talk to your family. Go to therapy! I’ve been in therapy for many years. It doesn’t make you weak, it doesn’t make you broken, it makes you wise!” Dan Reynolds concluded, reinforcing that music was a way he found to express himself.
Before the show ended, Imagine Dragons even made it rain silver papers while singing the classic “Radioactive” . Already “Believer” was the song chosen for the closing.
