Despite the forecast of a maximum temperature of 40 degrees, according to Alerta Rio, dozens of fans are already at the door of the Rock City in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio, waiting for the gates to open at 2 pm for the first day of the festival. The World stage will have American rapper and trap reference Travis Scott as the main attraction.
Bank employee Karlim Katine Bauermann brought her son Henry Arthur Panke to celebrate her 15th birthday at Rock in Rio. They came from Santa Cruz do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul. They arrived last Wednesday (11) and will stay until Sunday (15) to enjoy the city.
Mother and son arrived in line for the event at around 6:30 am. Henry said that initially he didn’t think his mother would agree to arrive so early, but he was happy with the surprise.
“I thought she would never accept this, but she did and we are here now waiting for the gates to open. I think my mother is being a real warrior, a real partner,” he said.
According to Karlim, the experience is an adventure that will remain etched in the memory forever.
“I’ve never been one to wait in line, I just like the artists, but in a more relaxed way. But he’s a huge fan, so I ended up giving in to do what he wanted and taking his son to the show. I think it’s been an adventure and we’ll have a lot of stories to tell later and I think it will stay in his memory after I’m here with him. I hope he always remembers this,” she said.
Other fans also came to enjoy the festival with their families. Brothers Augusto Lima, 20, Eduardo, 17, and Gabriel, 24, came from São Paulo. They arrived in line around 6 am. The shared passion among the family began with the influence of their older brother.
“I started listening to rap in 2015, then I started looking for it on YouTube and I developed a taste for it, then we got to know the artist in 2016, 2017, and then we ended up becoming big fans of his. There was a show in São Paulo, in 2022, but we still couldn’t afford to go, so now we bought it”, explained Gabriel.
The edition celebrating the festival’s 40th anniversary will take place on September 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22. Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes, Imagine Dragons, Avenged Sevenfold, Ed Sheeran and Mariah Carey are also among the main attractions.
