The American singer Mariah Carey 55, ended the programming of Sunset stage of Rock in Rio 2024 on Sunday night (22), as one of the most anticipated attractions of the event. He went on stage wearing a shiny dress that featured the colors and symbols of Brazil (photo).
“Good evening, Rock in Rio,” he said in Portuguese. “I’m very happy to be here. I love you,” he added.
The festival’s audience began to move intensely to the Sunset stage more than an hour before Carey’s performance. Before her, the World stage received Akon, in a show with sound and playback glitches.
Reports heard by CNN They point out that many people left the Mundo stage area before the middle of Akon’s show to head to the Sunset stage. The show by the 1990s diva is one of the most anticipated of the entire Rock in Rio lineup this year.
Mariah Carey performed in São Paulo last Friday (19), in a sold-out show with an unprecedented encore with a special song for Brazil: “I Want To Know What Love Is”. The same song was used to close the setlist of the show in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday.
After the performance in São Paulo, the American artist said it was one of her favorite shows of all time.
Rock in Rio, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, also featured shows by Ne-Yo and Ney Matogrosso this Sunday, as well as a tribute to Alcione’s 50-year career. Canadian Shawn Mendes (headliner on the Mundo stage) will soon close the program.
