The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) will launch a rocket into space with approximately a thousand letters written by public school students of Rio Grande do Norte, this Friday (29).
THE VS30 V15 suborbital rocket will be launched at the Barreira do Inferno Launch Center (CLBI), in Natal. The documents belong to children and teenagers from the cities of Natal, Parnamirim, São José de Mipibú and João Câmara.
The messages have as their central theme the future and reflection of students and their wishes for the next generations. The rocket will return to Earth and, after crossing the atmosphere, deposit the letters in the Atlantic Ocean.
The documents were inserted into the vehicle on November 21st, during a ceremony held at the Centro Vocacional Tecnológico Espacial Augusto Severo.
The initiative was created by FAB Institute of Aeronautics and Space (IAE) and by the National Space Activities Program (PNAE) and is coordinated by the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB).
According to FAB, the action seeks to awaken the fascination with space in children and adolescents. “We are taking our words into space so that they can be returned to a new generation. I hope that, in the future, human beings can find peace. I believe that, in 50 years, we will be able to find a way to survive and renew ourselves”, commented student Lucas Felipe Cícero, aged 17, in a note published by the Air Force.
Monitor Danilo Lima from the Spatial Technological Vocational Center (CVT) said he is proud to be able to help teachers raise awareness among young people about space. “Before, it was just entertainment. After joining the CVT, I started teaching public school children about the space sector”, he stated.
Space Technology Vocational Center
Installed in Parnamirim (RN), the Spatial Technological Vocational Center (CVT-E) of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) offers activities for disseminate scientific knowledge.
Aimed at children and adolescents, the place has a structure for technical and teacher qualification university students and other professionals on topics related to space activities.
VS30 V15 rocket
Designed by the Institute of Aeronautics and Space (IAE), the rocket VS30 V15 it is 8 meters long and contains almost a ton of solid fuel.
The spacecraft is a single-stage, unguided, rail-launched sounding rocket. It can reach a maximum altitude of just over 150 km, with a maximum speed of 6 thousand km/h.
