Rockstar Will Shorten GTA Online Load Times With Fan Advice

In early March 2021, a user with the nickname tostercx posted on GitHub his investigation into the insanely long download of GTA Online. He stated that he found a strange process in the game’s code that, when the game starts, loads the CPU by checking one file with content from an online store. Moreover, the enthusiast said that one developer can fix this error per day of a working day, after which the game load time should be reduced by 70% – from 6-10 to 2-3 minutes. And today, March 15, employees of Rockstar Games officially announced that they will use the works of the enthusiast.

The fact is that tostercx not only stated that the download speed of the game could be reduced, but also released a full-fledged patch, so to speak, which really reduced the download time of GTA Online to two minutes. The problem with this file was that it made changes to the game client, which could, in theory, lead to account blocking – making changes to the game files is prohibited. It is for this reason, for example, that various mods and graphics enhancements work preferably in a single player campaign rather than in multiplayer. Fortunately, the publisher has confirmed that the tostercx research is correct.

The developers released an official statement mentioning the user, saying that the game’s code can indeed be improved. Changes have already been made, they, according to Rockstar Games, work exactly as tostercx said, and in the very near future a patch with this improvement will go to release. In addition, company representatives even stated that they contacted the enthusiast to thank him for his efforts. In this situation, the only strange thing is that the developers knew for sure about the long loading of GTA Online, but for many years they did not do anything about this problem.
