Rodrigo Faro is cited in an Italian newspaper for corruption to obtain citizenship

O Italian newspaper 'RaiNews' cited presenter and actor Rodrigo Faro for participating in a network of corruption and falsification of documents to obtain Italian citizenship illegally.

On the social networks, the presenter stated that he was a victim and called his lawyers .

In addition to the actor, his wife, Vera Viel, player Bruno Duarte and Brazilian businesspeople were mentioned by the Italian outlet. According to the article, two Brazilian citizens, police officers, authorities and municipal employees were involved.

An operation called 'Carioca' launched by the Metropolitan Police of Naples, in the early hours of this Monday (27), combatted “a vast network of corruption” and arrested six people in the municipality of Villaricca, in the Campania region, in Italy, stated the report.

During the operation, two preventive detention measures were ordered against individuals who owned companies who performed intermediation functions. Among these functions was the execution of applications aimed at obtaining residence and granting Italian citizenship.

Rodrigo Faro spoke out on his social networks and stated that “he was taken by surprise by their alleged involvement in a corruption scheme to obtain citizenship and an Italian passport”.

According to the presenter, he and his wife were victims of the office and its team, “since they hired the service of a supposedly legal, reputable company that followed procedures in accordance with Italian laws”.

In a statement, the actor stated that the process [de obtenção de passaporte italiano] was approved and the documents were issued. Faro contacted his lawyers in Brazil so that “those responsible for this alleged corruption scheme are duly punished”.

Investigation

According to the Italian newspaper 'RaiNews', the operation that allegedly involved presenter Rodrigo Faro was coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Nápoles Norte.

According to the investigation, which lasted around a year, the crimes involved criminal association, falsification of public documents and corruption, in the municipality of Villaricca, southern Italy.

The text from the Public Ministry obtained by CNN further states that the criminal activity aimed to make the residents appear to be Brazilian citizens who were not actually present in the municipality of Villaricca, thus allowing them to apply for Italian citizenship.

“The activity was carried out in favor of Brazilian subjects, including well-known and prominent figures, such as businessmen, football players, presenters of Brazilian television programs whose presence in the Villaricca area was falsely certified abroad,” stated the agency.

The Ministry document also says that four measures of house arrest were applied to public employees of the Municipality of Villaricca, including members of the registry office, as well as employees of the Municipal Police of the Municipality of Villaricca.
