Rohani: Negotiations with Europe on nuclear without threats or pressure

Hassan Rohani called on European countries to negotiate a nuclear program without “threat or pressure” during his meeting with Irish Foreign Minister Simon Cowney.

“The best way to resolve problems with European partners bilaterally, regionally and internationally is through negotiations that are based on mutual respect and avoid any threat or pressure,” he said.

Rohani reiterated criticism of the “inaction of Europe in terms of commitments” of the agreement and added that the Iran pledged to “keep” it as “the only place that paid the price”.

The remarks come days after Germany, France and Britain abandoned a draft resolution criticizing Tehran at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN nuclear watchdog.

Following the US presidency by Joe Biden, Washington, the European parties to the agreement (France, Germany, Britain) and Tehran are trying to salvage the agreement reached in Vienna in 2015, which offered Iran a relaxation of international sanctions. in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.

The deal is in danger of being scrapped following the unilateral withdrawal of the United States in 2018 by former President Donald Trump, who has reinstated sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
