Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2021, the sailing season starts again

It was not said until the last moment that we would be able to kick off this eagerly awaited one Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2021. But the grip of the pandemic has loosened, Capri has become Covid free, the latest Dpcm has enlarged the jerseys and the organizers have committed themselves to guaranteeing maximum safety. The new season of sailing, which sees Rolex committed, as it has for over sixty years now, to supporting a series of famous regattas.

Sixty-two hulls (from 12 different nations) competed for the title for this ORC European Championship, in a breathtaking scenery, making their edges in the waters of the Isola Azzura, between the mythical Faraglioni, Punta Carena lighthouse and Marina Grande.

They win, for the three categories in the race, Xio by Marco Serafini (ORC category A, from 44 to 52 feet), I will fantasize by Carlandrea Simonelli (ORC B category, 39 to 43 feet) e Scugnizza by Vincenzo De Blasio (category C, from 30 to 38 feet). To them the coveted black Rolex Submariner, delivered by the president of Rolex Italia, Gian Riccardo Marini.

Little did the public present, given the particularity of the period and this time the usual worldliness that loves Capri events so much, took a step back, leaving room for the sailors in the race, even if “overlooking” the race course, to follow the steps of boa, the mythical has been glimpsed Solleone, a 115 foot long dream boat built by Nautor’s Swan (whose president is Leonardo Ferragamo).

To document all the many images taken daily by Carlo Borlenghi, who, looking out from the helicopter, photographed every single passage of the sails (his are the photos in this gallery).

The sea has thus opened its dances and now the calendar is filled with many other regattas. Next, and by now very close, follows Rolex Giraglia, scheduled from 16 to 19 June, between Sanremo and Genoa, then – since we are in an odd year – the Rolex Fastnet Race, from 8 to 15 August in the waters between Cowes (United Kingdom) and Cherbourg (France). We return to Italy in September, from 5 to 11, with the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo, to immediately go across the border with the Rolex Middle Sea Race in Malta (23 – 30 October 2021), the Rolex Tp52 World Championship in Mallorca (1 – 6 November 2021) and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, to close the year (26 – 31 December 2021) on the other side of the world.
