'Rolex-gate': Peru's attorney general files 'constitutional challenge' to Congress against Bolluarte

Yesterday, Monday 27/5, the Attorney General of Peru filed an appeal against President Dina Boluarte to Congress in the context of the case dubbed “Rolex-gate” by the press. The members of the Peruvian national delegation are now called upon to say whether or not they allow the judiciary to proceed with criminal prosecution against them. “The general prosecutor's office (…) filed a constitutional appeal against Dina Boluarte, as she allegedly committed the crime of passive corruption, to the detriment of the state,” the institution said in a statement. In parliament, which is dominated by right-wing and far-right parties that generally support Mrs. Boluarte, the appeal in principle will need to be studied by a subcommittee responsible for bringing charges under the Constitution, before it is – if it is – put up for discussion and voting in the plenary.
