Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, who owns Chelsea in the Premier League, has accepted a Ukrainian request to help negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, his spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Reuters.
“I can confirm that Roman Abramovich has contacted the Ukrainian side for support in reaching a peaceful solution and that he is trying to help,” she said.
“Given what is at stake, we would ask for an understanding of why we have not commented on the situation itself or its involvement.”
The news was first reported by the Jewish News newspaper, which reported that Ukraine had contacted Jewish contacts to ask for Abramovich’s help in the search for peace.
