The principles of USA got the green light for the seizure of two planes of American origin, owned by him Ρώσου businessman Roman Abramovichbecause they flew to Russia without the necessary permission, because of sanctions imposed after invasion of Ukraine.
The Commerce Department has filed several charges against Abramovich, claiming that the oligarch named his children as the owners of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Gulfstream G650 ER aircraft, although Abramovich himself continued to control them.
The Commerce Department said the Gulfstream flew from Istanbul to Moscow on March 12 and the Boeing took off from Dubai for Moscow on March 4, after the restrictions took effect on February 24. As the planes were American-made, Abramovich needed a permit to transport them to Russia.
“No licenses have been issued for the planes that flew to Russia,” federal prosecutors in Manhattan said in their seizure warrant. As a result, administrative sanctions were imposed on Abramovich, including a fine of up to $ 328,121.
The United States has accused Abramovich of exporting aircraft to Russia without permission
US authorities on Monday accused Russian businessman Roman Abramovich of exporting two US-made aircraft to Russia without a permit, which is required by US sanctions imposed on Moscow in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
In a letter of indictment, the Commerce Department said Abramovich had named his children in February as beneficiaries of the “virtual entities” that owned the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Gulfstream G650 ER aircraft, but that he continued to control them.
Manhattan federal prosecutors are now seeking to seize the two aircraft, according to court documents. According to the Ministry of Justice, the planes have not yet been confiscated by the US.
The allegations come as US authorities try to pressure businessmen close to Russian President Vladimir Putin to persuade Moscow to end the war in Ukraine, which the Kremlin calls a special military operation. Abramovich has not been personally sanctioned by the United States.
