Former porn star Ron Jeremy, 69, accused of rape and sexual assault, suffers from “severe dementia” and will be deemed incompetent to stand trial, according to the Los Angeles Times
A judge in March ordered a psychiatric examination because the actor – who has made more than 1,700 appearances in pornographic films since the late 1970s – failed to recognize one of his lawyers, Stuart Goldfarb, when he visited him in prison.
According to the publication of the American newspaper, the doctors who were called to examine Jeremy decided that his mental state has been greatly affected.
“Given expert opinion, the defendant will be found incompetent to stand trial,” District Attorney Paul Thompson explained via email to the Los Angeles Times. “If his condition does not improve, we will not be able to prosecute him for his crimes.” In June 2020, Ron Jeremy was accused by three women of rape and a fourth of sexual assault. His arrest and arraignment in Los Angeles had sparked a wave of complaints.
Some charges relate to cases dating back to 1996. In total, Ron Jeremy is accused of sexually assaulting 21 women – ages 15 to 51— according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney. He had repeatedly declared that he is “innocent”. In June 2020, the defense attorney assured that his client “was not a rapist”.
