Ronin hackers transferred stolen assets from ETH to BTC

A blockchain security expert under the nickname “₿liteZero” said that he tracked the movement of assets stolen from the Ronin gateway. Hackers transferred stolen assets from ETH to BTC.

After the Ronin bridge was hacked in March, the attackers transferred $625 million worth of USDC and ETH stablecoins to the Tornado Cash mixer, making it difficult to track the funds further. ₿liteZero recorded that hackers used the Ren gateway and several centralized crypto exchanges to transfer ether to bitcoins. Most of the assets have been transferred to the ChipMixer and Blender mixers.

After the hackers withdrew funds from Tornado Cash, they sent about 6,250 ETH ($20.7 million) to the centralized exchanges Binance, Huobi and FTX. The stolen assets were then transferred to the addresses of the North Korean cryptocurrency mixer Blender. Recall that earlier the US government discovered the connection of the North Korean hacker group Lazarus with the Ronin hack.

₿liteZero said that it continues to monitor the actions of hackers, however, further movement of funds will be more difficult to track.

Recall that the developers of the Ronin Network sidechain involved in the game Axie Infinity reported a hacker attack in February. The attackers managed to crack the private keys and steal 173,600 ETH and 25.5 million USDC.
