Today, May 5, employees of the state corporation Roscosmos officially announced the signing of a contract with the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia named after S.P. Korolev for the development of a draft design of the future Russian Orbital Station (ROS), which will be built in a modular format. Experts noted that in the foreseeable future, the Russian Orbital Station will be used by scientists instead of the International Space Station for various scientific and research purposes.
“The main purpose is to deploy and ensure the targeted use of a new generation of manned orbital infrastructure in low Earth orbit, which ensures the implementation of Russia’s national interests in the field of manned space activities, the development of domestic science and the economy,” a statement on the official website of Roscosmos.

Also, representatives of the state corporation said that the design of the Russian orbital station will take place in two stages. At the first stage, specialists will analyze scenarios for the deployment and inclination of the orbit, calculate the cost of delivering one kilogram of cargo, and also study the deployment of the initial configuration of the complex and the possibility of transferring spacecraft from the ROS orbit to the circumlunar orbit. At the second stage, specialists must develop a draft design, as well as technical specifications for station options.

Moreover, engineers will analyze the possibilities for providing the station with communications, study the issues of training the appropriate crew, as well as the most important functions – work with unmanned and manned modes. Unfortunately, no one has yet announced the timing of the sketch work.
