We continue to monitor the situation around Google, YouTube and the Duma TV channel, which was blocked today. Recall that in the morning video hosting closed access to the Duma TV channel, which covered the activities of the lower house of parliament. Naturally, this did not go unnoticed: the Federation Council, the State Duma itself and the Foreign Ministry took the news equally negatively and hinted that such a step could be the last, after which YouTube would be blocked in Russia.

Now the relevant department has taken over the matter. According to TASS, Roskomnadzor turned to Google, as the company that owns the YouTube video hosting, with a demand to remove restrictions from the Duma TV channel and explain the reasons for their introduction.
“Roskomnadzor demanded that the American company Google LLC, which owns the YouTube Internet service, immediately restore access to the Duma TV channel of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on video hosting and explain the reason for the introduction of such restrictions.”, – stated in the message of the department. They also added that blocking the YouTube channel of the state body hinders the dissemination of information and free access to it.
What was Google’s response to this? The company said that access to Duma TV is closed in accordance with sanctions against Russia. “Google complies with all applicable sanctions and trade compliance laws. If we find that an account is in violation of the terms of service, we will take appropriate action.”, – reported in the press service. Will such a response suit Roskomnadzor? It is highly doubtful. But we continue to monitor the situation.
