Roskomnadzor wants to collect a fine of up to 17 billion rubles from Google

Roskomnadzor said yesterday that this month the regulator will seek to fine the American tech giant Google by a certain percentage of its annual turnover in Russia for numerous cases when the company did not remove content that is considered illegal.

Roskomnadzor said that Google has not paid 32.5 million rubles in fines imposed so far this year, and will now demand a fine of 5 to 20% of Google’s turnover in Russia. Google’s turnover in Russia in 2020 amounted to 85.5 billion rubles. That is, the fine can range from 4.3 to 17.1 billion rubles.

Now Roskomnadzor has confirmed that a similar case is being prepared against Google. The materials will be submitted to the court on October 27, and the court session is scheduled for November 8.

Google has not yet responded to a request for comment.
