Roskomnadzor announced the extension of measures to slow down Twitter traffic until May 15. The decision to completely block the social network on the territory of the Russian Federation was postponed, as the company began to remove prohibited content.
“Taking into account the decision made by Twitter for the first time to change the principles and speed of its own moderation service on the territory of the Russian Federation and to remove a significant part of the prohibited content in this regard, Roskomnadzor decided not to proceed to the next measure – a complete blocking of the social network,” the department said.
By extending the slowdown measures, Roskomnadzor gave social networks additional time to remove all prohibited content.
Roskomnadzor began to slow down the speed of Twitter on the territory of the Russian Federation due to the refusal of the social network to remove the content banned in Russia from March 10. The department also announced the possibility of a complete blocking of the social network in the Russian Federation.
After that, Twitter began to remove prohibited content, but still received fines of 8.9 million rubles for posting information, “access to which is subject to restrictions in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.”
