Roskosmos sent another 34 OneWeb satellites — space Internet will be launched this year

Today, February 11, on the official website of the state corporation Roscosmos, a record appeared on the successful launch of 34 new OneWeb satellites into Earth orbit, which in the foreseeable future will provide users with high-speed Internet access services even in hard-to-reach areas. Representatives of the state corporation noted that the Russian Soyuz-ST-B launch vehicle, equipped with the Fregat-M upper stage, launched from the site of the Guiana Space Center yesterday, February 10, at 21:09 Moscow time. Fortunately, everything went according to plan – nine minutes after launch, the head unit separated from the third stage of the launch vehicle in the normal mode.

Immediately after that, the OneWeb satellites, consisting of nine groups, successively separated from the Russian Fregat-M upper stage, after which all 34 satellites were launched into the specified orbits – at the moment, the control center has taken control of all spacecraft. At the same time, representatives of Roscosmos noted that this is already the thirteenth launch that was carried out using the Russian Soyuz-2 launch vehicle – previously five launches were made from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, six more from the Vostochny Cosmodrome, and two The Russian rocket was launched from the Guiana Space Center.

Accordingly, the current infrastructure of the OneWeb project consists of 428 satellites located in near-Earth orbit. In addition, several more launches are scheduled for 2022 (the next one is on March 4), which will allow the company to begin the full deployment of the project to provide the Internet around the world. For this, 40 ground stations-terminals will be installed all over the planet, which will autonomously supply themselves with energy and “distribute” the Internet in the coverage area (Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G).
