Roskosmos has published photos with a new design of the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle. As the press service notes, “Soyuz-2” for the first time in several decades is presented in a new, unusual design for it.

The launch of the updated rocket is scheduled for March 20, 2021, and the Samara Progress Rocket and Space Center was responsible for the development and production.

The Soyuz-2 rocket is painted in white and blue instead of the standard gray-orange color combination. It is noted that the source of inspiration for the new paintwork was the prototype of the Vostok launch vehicle, which is located at VDNKh in Moscow. It is painted white, and the rocket looks white when launched from the frost covering the liquid oxygen tanks. On the Vostok launch vehicle 60 years ago, the first cosmonaut of the planet Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin went on a flight from the Baikonur cosmodrome.

The old gray edging will be replaced with a corporate bright blue color, inherent in the main symbols of Glavkosmos Launch Services – the operator of commercial launch programs, as well as used in the corporate style of Roskosmos. The media will replace orange with blue and gray with white. The color of the transition compartment will also change – instead of the traditional gray, it will also turn blue.
It is assumed that other launches this year, which are under contracts with Glavkosmos Launch Services, will be carried out in this particular color scheme.
