Roskosmos will test a reusable rocket stage. They want to turn her into a drone

The state corporation “Roskosmos” intends to start testing a reusable stage of the launch vehicle, which will be made in the form of an unmanned aerial vehicle. According to the specialists’ idea, the stage will take off from the airfield and will be able to return from space, landing on the runway or on the ground. This was reported by the RIA Novosti newspaper with reference to a source in the rocket and space industry.

The reusable stage of the Krylo-SV rocket is being developed by the design bureau. Bartini since 2019. They want to equip it with a turbojet engine, as well as install a landing gear and nose cone on it, similar to that installed on airplanes. The wing of the reusable stage is planned to be made rectangular for more efficient flight in the atmosphere. All this will allow her to take off and land.

In fact, it will be an unmanned aerial vehicle based on a rocket stage. The tests are planned to be carried out at one of the military airfields, but the source did not name the exact dates. This may happen in the second half of next year.
