The head of the Rostec state corporation, Sergei Chemezov, in an interview with the French edition of Le Figaro, spoke about the main advantages of the Russian fifth-generation Su-75 single-engine fighter, aka Checkmate, compared to the American F-35 fighter – Chemezov called it the main competitor in the sky. The main advantage of the Russian aircraft, according to the head of the state corporation, is its availability in terms of flights – a flight hour on a Su-75 will cost seven times less than that of an American opponent. Accordingly, the Russian development is more profitable in terms of operation.
However, the advantages of the Su-75 do not end only with the economic profitability. Chemezov noted that the Russian development has an impressive bonus in the form of low visibility and the most modern radar with a special active-type phased antenna array. In addition, “Check and checkmate” can be easily adapted to the specific needs of potential customers, which is also an important advantage. Fortunately, according to insiders from the aircraft construction industry, very soon the state corporation presented the aircraft outside of Russia – at the Dubai Airshow 2021 exhibition (held from November 14 to 18). True, so far the fighter is not included in the list of models announced for demonstration at the event.
It is also worth recalling that a huge advantage of the Su-75 is its unmanned layout – Yuri Slyusar, head of the United Aircraft Corporation, said that in the next 15 years Russia will manufacture 300 manned fighters (some, apparently, will be sold to potential customers), but there will also be an unmanned version. And behind this, probably, the future of military aircraft is a low-visibility fighter, inside of which there is no pilot.
