Rostec has created batteries that work even at –50 ° C. For drones and others

The Ruselectronics holding, part of the state corporation Rostec, has developed lithium-ion batteries capable of supporting the operation of various devices in the temperature range from –50 to +50 ° C. As noted on the company’s website, such batteries can be used in medicine, robotics, aviation, the military, and so on.

NPO Impulse is developing lithium-ion batteries as part of the task of developing the domestic electronic component base, as well as the import substitution program. Working samples of batteries are compatible with foreign counterparts. The products have already passed preliminary tests, and they should go into serial production in the first quarter of next year. Depending on the needs of the customer, batteries can be produced with different characteristics in terms of rated voltage, capacity and size.

The new battery features a unique electrochemical formulation that allows it to operate in extreme temperatures. It weighs about 150 g and is rated for 2,700 or more cycles, depending on operating conditions. The batteries can be used in telecommunications, medical and military equipment, as well as in robots, drones, ships and airplanes. In addition, such batteries can be operated even in space, if a special casing with radiation protection is provided.
