Rostec presented a sample of silicon from Russian materials. It can be used in electronics

At the international industrial exhibition Innoprom-2022, which is currently taking place in Yekaterinburg, they showed a sample of single-crystal silicon created entirely from Russian materials. It was presented by the Roselectronics holding, which is part of the Rostec state corporation. Domestic technology for creating silicon will replace foreign raw materials needed for the production of various electronics.

The Rostec website notes that Russian silicon is created in several stages. First, monosilane is made from metallurgical silicon powder, from which polycrystalline silicon is produced, which is the basis for monocrystalline silicon. This technology was developed by specialists from the Salyut enterprise together with the Institute of Physics of Microstructures of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of the Russian Academy of Sciences by order of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The technology makes it possible to produce silicon with a specific electrical resistance of more than 1000 Ohm∙cm. It can be used for silicon wafers, which in turn are essential in electronics manufacturing. Thus, it is possible to completely replace this material with imports.
