The singer Karin Hils, former member of Rouge, revealed that she had an abortion early in her career a few months after joining the musical group.
“I had an abortion. As soon as I entered Rouge, two or three months later, I got pregnant,” she explained in an interview with Pod, Não Pod ou Depende.
“I remember that period when I was rehearsing to be able to do a Carnival in Salvador, and although I didn’t plan on Rouge in my life, all of that was… Anyway, life is made of choices and I chose to follow my career. I didn’t have much time to think about it”, said Hils.
According to the singer, the lack of support from the fetus’ father was also a factor in making the decision: “Let’s just say he encouraged me to do it in the sense of not supporting me. He said something like: ‘You’re crazy, what are you going to do with your life, it took you so long to get here’. I already got the message.”
“I was in the middle of that madness and I was thinking a lot about the contract [com a gravadora]because everything was very tied up,” she added. “I had the abortion and moved on with my life. It wasn’t something that stayed with me throughout my life.”
According to Hils, she was only able to process the event better when she was older, through art and therapy.
“It’s amazing how art sometimes puts us in a place, I started to have several experiences [profissionais] as a mother. One in particular in the choir, I was the mother of a teenager and I had to do a number singing the song ‘A Piece of Me’. When I started studying this song… it was a catharsis,” she added.
