THE actor Wi Ha-jun, 33, detective Jun-ho from “Round 6” said that he was not expecting to become so famous and gain so many fans for his participation in the South Korean production.
In an interview with The New York Times, he commented: “I never imagined it would be this big, so I was surprised every day by the news that came out, and I couldn’t believe that Korean content could be such a huge global sensation.”
Ha-jun said he was looking for prominent acting roles when he heard about “Round 6” and attended the audition. Furthermore, he said that on the day he had to hide part of his face that had a rash and he still got the job.
In the series he plays the detective who, after discovering that his brother is one of the criminal masterminds behind the deadly games that fuel an organ harvesting operation, begins a fight to end the killing carried out on the island.
With the success of the first season of the production, Ha-jun said that the sudden fame scared his family members. “My family and friends were actually very worried about me because I wasn’t just enjoying the process. I also felt a lot of stress,” he told The New York Times.
With more than 11 million followers on Instagram, the actor commented that he “never imagined being so big” on social media and that, after his first participation in “Round 6”, he received invitations from brands, sponsorships and proposals to participate in casts of other programs.
Regarding the future, Ha-jun revealed that he wants to act in a romantic comedy. “Also, if I get an opportunity, I would love to venture into Hollywood and do some action films,” he said.
“Round 6” will end with the third season, which is scheduled to be released in 2025 and had the first teaser released this Thursday (2).
Released in 2021, the first season of the Korean series took the world by storm by following a group of people in desperate search of money who enter a series of children’s games with deadly results.
The production also made history at the Emmy Awards, becoming the first non-English-language production to be nominated for the Best Drama award, in 2022.
