The Rio Grande do Sul Court denied yet another request to revoke the preventive detention of influencer Dilson Alves da Silva Neto, known as Nego Di, who is suspected of fraud and has been imprisoned since July 14 at the Canoas State Penitentiary, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre.
For magistrate Patrícia Pereira Krebs Tonet, of the 2nd Criminal Court of the District of Canoas, Nego Di’s defense did not present “new arguments capable of dismissing the grounds considered by the Court, in the arrest warrant”. The decision was made on Friday (26).
In addition to Nego Di, his partner, Anderson Bonetti, has also been arrested for fraud since July 22. The losses suffered by the 370 victims in the scheme exceed R$5 million reais, according to the police.
A CNN sought Nego Di’s defense and is awaiting a response. Anderson Bonetti’s defense has not been located yet.
The scheme
According to investigations, Nego Di sold products such as TVs, air conditioning and cell phones at below-market prices and did not deliver them.
On social media, he said he had been hired by Bonetti to simply promote the products, but in another video he said he was the owner and guaranteed delivery of the product to customers.
One of the victims of the scam, who lost R$30,000 when buying two cell phones and some air conditioning units, told CNN about Nego Di’s modus operandi.
According to her, the suspect sold, in 2022, cell phones at prices well below market value and delivered them, to give credibility to the scam.
Soon after, he announced that he would create an online store, selling products at low prices so that everyone could have access.
The delivery period for the products was 50 days, which for the police was a plan devised by Nego Di, to be able to deceive other people, making more promotions to attract other customers in that time.
After the victims contacted the police, banking secrecy was broken, demonstrating that, in a short period of time, Nego Di received more than R$300,000, confirming the intent of fraud.
Who is Nego Di?
Dilson Alves da Silva Neto, known as Nego Di, is 30 years old, from Porto Alegre (RS) and became famous after participating in the 2021 edition of ‘Big Brother Brasil’ on Rede Globo. He was eliminated in the third ‘wall’ of the program with 98.76% of the votes.
It was the second biggest rejection in the history of the reality show, behind only Karol Conká, who left in the same year with 99.17% of the votes.
The gaucho is also a comedian, singer and businessman. Today, he has more than 13 million followers on the main social media platforms.
He has been performing stand-up comedy events since 2018, when he launched the show ‘As aventuras de Nego Di’, then in 2020 with ‘Over12’ and in 2022 with ‘98% Show’.
The artist also entered the world of music in 2018, when he released the album ‘As Aventuras de Nego Di’ with the rap genre. His best-known songs are “Volta por Cima”, “Marfim” and “Lembrei de Tu”.
In April 2024, the comedian was involved in an exchange of barbs with MMA legend Wanderlei Silva, when he mocked the champion by calling him a “retired fighter”.
