RS: field hospitals will have ICU reinforcements and the Army redoes crossings washed away by floods

Five beds in intensive care units (ICUs) will be allocated, over the next few days, to field hospitals that provide care to flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul.

Composed of hospital beds, lung ventilators, multiparameter monitors, volumetric infusion pumps and pump supports, the equipment is already in Porto Alegre, according to the Ministry of Health.

The number of deaths related to the floods that hit the state reached 166, according to a Civil Defense report released this Saturday (25). Another 61 people are missing and 806 were injured due to the storms.

The equipment must be distributed to the three operating field hospitals, located in the municipalities of Canoas, Porto Alegre and São Leopoldo, and also to the Novo Hamburgo field hospital, which began operating this Saturday.

In total, six doctors, three nurses and nursing technicians will provide 24-hour care in Novo Hamburgo. The new unit has the capacity to carry out between 150 and 200 services per day.

“The new ICU beds will be important to guarantee the safety of professionals and patients who require management and critical care”, highlighted the ministry, citing the importance of guaranteeing comprehensive care and continued assistance in a safe manner.

Data from the ministry indicate that, since May 5th, professionals from the National Force of the Unified Health System (SUS) in Rio Grande do Sul have provided more than 5,800 consultations in response to the impacts of flooding in the region.

The Canoas field hospital registered 2,800 visits, while the Porto Alegre unit registered 970 and the São Leopoldo unit, 221.

“In addition, the mobile teams also served 1,600 people, carried out 60 air evacuations and 192 psychosocial services,” informed the ministry.

New volunteers

Also this Saturday, 40 new volunteers from the SUS National Force arrived in Rio Grande do Sul to reinforce services and expand health care in the state.

The group is made up of emergency physicians from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and joined the team, promoting the exchange of professionals and the inclusion of new categories, such as nursing technicians, to diversify and expand the service capacity in hospitals. campaign.

“The arrival of the new professionals aims to allow mobile teams, made up of doctors and nurses, to work simultaneously in locations classified as priority in the state”, informed the ministry.
