The government of Rio Grande do Sul, through the Secretariat of Environment and Infrastructure (Sema), reported, on the night of this Wednesday (25), that two dams are in emergency situation .
To the structures located in the Passo do Salso neighborhood, in Pelotas (RS), have “anomalies” and represent risk of “imminent rupture” according to the government. The agency also reports that it is monitoring the situation.
Civil Defense is on site and reported having adopted the necessary measures to guarantee the protection of the lives of residents, who were advised to evacuate the risk areas.
These were also all contingency measures to direct the flow of water to uninhabited regions.
Sema informs that it is in contact with the developer to ensure compliance with legislation regarding dam safety. CNN could not find the company responsible for the dam.
Rain alert
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a red alert this Wednesday (25) for accumulated rainfall in Rio Grande do Sul. The rains that have hit the state since the weekend have already caused damage in at least 26 municipalities according to the National Civil Defense.
The alert is of “Great Danger”, the most severe level, with the probability of major damage and accidents. There are risks to physical integrity and life, according to Inmet. The alert is valid until the end of the morning of this Thursday (26).

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul issued a warning severe risk of flooding in the state.
